Inui kun of Hiroshima University, Tsutsui san of JASRI, and Hayashi kun of Institute for Material Sciences, Tohoku University, join the experiment. On the way back to Kumamoto, Hello Kitty Shinkansen train is seen at Okayama station.

An invited talk entitled ‘Hyper-ordered structures and glass-forming abilities of Pd-based metallic glasses’ is carried out at the Micro-symposium ‘Disordered materials: spectroscopic and scattering techniques’ of 25th General Assembly and Congress of the International Union of Crystallography held at Prague and online on 14-22 August. Anomalous x-ray scattering and neutron diffraction results on Pd-based metallic glasses are analyzed by using reverse Monte Carlo modeling, and the relationship between structural features in the intermediate-range structures and the glass-forming ability.

A proceedings paper ‘Local- and Intermediate-Range Atomic Order in Ga2Ge3Se9 Glass: Complementary Use of X-Rays and Neutrons’ is published in JPS Conference Proceedings 33, 011069-1-6 (2021), which was presented at The 3rd J-PARC Symposium (J-PARC2019) (23-26 September 2019, Tsukuba). Partial structures of Ga-Ge-Se infrared glass fiber materials are precisely determined by a combination of neutron diffraction, anomalous x-ray scattering, and reverse Monte Carlo calculation.
Similarly, a proceedings paper ‘Local- and Intermediate-Range Order in Room Temperature Superionic Conducting Ag-GeSe3 Glasses’ is published in JPS Conference Proceedings 33, 011070-1-7 (2021). Partial structures of Ag-GeSe3 room-temperature superionic glass materials are precisely determined by a combination of neutron diffraction, anomalous x-ray scattering, and reverse Monte Carlo calculation.

A paper ‘Collective dynamics of liquid acetone investigated by inelastic x-ray scattering’ is published in Journal of Molecular Liquids 332, 115825-1-9 (2021). Longitudinal acoustic phonon modes of liquid acetone are obtained by inelastic x-ray scattering, and analyzed by a generalized Langevin equation with a simple sparse modeling. The obtained fast and slow viscoelastic relaxation rates are found for the first time to correspond to vibration mode in the molecule and rotational mode of the molecule, respectively.

A paper ‘Detailed structural analysis of amorphous Pd40Cu40P20: Comparison with the metallic glass Pd40Ni40P20 from the viewpoint of glass forming ability’ is published in Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids 555, 120536-1-10 (2021). Structure of amorphous Pd40Cu40P20 is obtained by a combination of anomalous x-ray scattering, neutron diffraction, and reverse Monte Carlo calculation, and the relationship with glass-forming ability is discussed in comparison to Pd40Ni40P20 glass.

A paper ‘Detailed investigations on short- and intermediate-range structures of Ge-Se glasses near the stiffness transition composition’ is published in Journal of Physical Society of Japan 90, 024601-1-12 (2021). In addition to previous anomalous x-ray scattering, neutron diffraction data are included in the reverse Monte Carlo modeling, and the relationship between the stiffness transition and hyper-ordered structures is clarified in Ge-Se glasses.
